One square, one character.

You do not start from a blank page. The squares are already there, and each character you type settles into one of them.

Three ways to write

  • Today's sentence screen

    Today's sentence

A short sentence arrives each day. Copy it out.

  • Diary screen

    Diary

The date is filled in for you.

  • Writing screen with a prompt card

    Writing

Write freely. If you stall, a prompt card helps.

Japanese is written
vertically, by default.

Lines run from right to left. Punctuation and the small kana っ and ゃ sit exactly where manuscript paper rules put them.

Vertical Japanese manuscript paper screen

400 squares, 20 by 20.

Not a text editor with a grid drawn on it. The squares came first. 200-square sheets are available too.

20 × 20 = 400 squares

Quiet rules

No grading.

It never asks how well you wrote. It only shows how many squares you filled.

Skip a day and nothing is lost.

There are no streaks. A missed day resets nothing, and no notification pushes you to come back.

When a sheet is finished

Save it as an image and share it. Blank sheets can be printed on A4.

Carve a name or pen name of one to four characters, and a red seal is stamped at the end of the sheet you export.

A finished manuscript sheet saved as an image

No account.

No sign-in. What you write stays on your device and is never sent to a server.

A banner ad is shown at the bottom of the screen.
